In this blog of the Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG) at University of Cape Town (UCT), I would like to publicize and disseminate the below open statement from the Young Earth System Scientists Community (YESS) regarding the massive job cuts to CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere and Land and Water divisions.

YESS is a global network of over 90 countries and more than 670 young Earth system scientists. So we as younger, global generation, expressing our concerns about the state of future climate science research if CSIRO were to be taken out of the picture (at this stage this would be very likely).  These bad decisions are truly awful. They were poorly researched and there was no consultation with the staff. There was no realization of the global ramifications of these decisions.  It also lefts a dark cloud across the whole Australian climate community. We hope it will gain media attention.
