This one year project seeks to develop climate change indicators that track South Africa’s response to climate change, including both aspects of adaptation and mitigation. It brings together a team of researchers from four different University research groups, namely the African Centre for Cities (ACC), the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI), the Energy Research Centre (ERC) and the Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG). The team is taking a complex systems angle, aiming to get climate change out of ‘the green box’ by highlighting systems interlinkages and placing the indicators within the context of South Africa’s national goals and challenges. The work will be completed through the drafting of the next South African Annual Climate Change Report.
