CSAG has been producing a global seasonal forecast every month since about 2001.  Although the forecast is global the southern African regions is the area of focus with special focus directed at South Africa. The forecast is updated every month and forecast images, discussion of the forecast as well as links to other seasonal forecasts can be found on the Global Forecast Centre for South Africa website. Currently only CSAG publishes it’s forecast here but there are links to other forecasts produced by South African (and non- South African) institutions.

Please contact Chris Lennard (lennard@csag.uct.ac.za) if you have any questions of queries regarding the forecast.

This is currently an unfunded activity of the group but it has relevance to two projects we are involved in whose aims are to improve the development of seasonal forecasts such as the Japanese sponsored Prediction of Climate Variations and its Application in the Southern Africa Region as well as the FP7 ClimAfrica project which has an additional role of facilitating seasonal forecast uptake. Both these projects have the goal of making improvements to seasonal forecasting in sub-Saharan Africa.
