This Scientific Capacity Development (SCD) study was concerned with analysing barriers, opportunities and good practices in Africa.

This project, under the lead of the African Climate & Development Initiative (ACDI), was aimed at informing the implementation of the Future Climate for Africa (FCFA) programme. A central component of FCFA involves international collaboration to develop African scientific capacity, and a central question for the FCFA in its inception phase is therefore “What Scientific Capacity Development (SCD) options work best in specific African contexts?” Accordingly, the SCD project sets out to: contribute to the academic literature on scientific capacity development in Africa, particularly in the field of climate science, climate impact assessment, and climate change adaptation research; and to inform FCFA in the design and delivery of the FCFA Scientific Capacity Development Strategy. CSAG is providing an advisory and partnership role in undertaking this activity alongside the ACDI.
