APPLICATIONS FOR INTERNSHIPS 2018 NOW OPEN

CSAG has applied to be a host institution for DST-NRF Interns for 2018-2019.

CSAG invites young graduates who are interested in interning at CSAG for the period 2018-2019 to apply to the DST-NRF Internship program.

CSAG INTERNSHIP DETAILS:

We are looking for a self-motivated candidate who will work with key research staff within existing projects and towards proposals and new contract work within the unit.

This opportunity is for those looking to develop their skill sets, gain hands on experience in a research unit and to define a career path.

Candidates should be interested in one or more of the following themes;

  • Climate modelling
  • Atmospheric processes
  • Communicating climate information
  • Data dissemination
  • Stakeholder/user engagement

The internship will provide an opportunity to work on the frontiers of science with researchers involved in a variety of exciting projects. It is thus an amazing experiential stepping-stone for further post-graduate studies/early career paths.

CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS: 14 NOVEMBER 2017

Once you have applied through the NRF website, please email your CV and a one-page letter of motivation to Kate Kloppers (climate@csag.uct.ac.za). The letter should notify us of your application to the DST-NRF Internship program, and outline your interests in research relating to one or more of the themes mentioned above.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified in early January, interviews will occur in mid-January, early February.

If you have not heard back from us by the end of January unfortunately it means you were unsuccessful.

The internship runs from April 2018 – March 2019, though it may be ended sooner if you are commencing further study in 2019. The DST-NRF Internship program provides monthly salaries in line with your level of qualification. Further funds are potentially available through CSAG to ‘top-up’ these salaries, in cases of financial need, or to start the internship at an earlier date. All salaries of enrolled interns will be subject to personal taxation.

The positions are open to all qualified candidates –with a preference to South African citizens. Applicants should achieve at least a lower second in EGS3012S (if at UCT) and similar results in other courses. This internship is best suited for a student who has completed or is near completion of an undergraduate or honours degree. The ability to work independently and take initiative is essential for this internship.
